When Relationship Begins to Bloom

You remember when you first started hanging out with one of your good friends and you guys hung out so much that you inadvertently started picking up their clichés or their habits?

That’s how my relationship with God is.

Of course my ways and habits don’t bleed onto Him, but the intentionality of getting things right with him carries over to my other relationships. My marriage, my children, my friends and even my cutoffs benefit from my relationship with God.

I didn’t expect this, but I’m glad it’s happening.

It’s helping me communicate better, I can disagree without feeling the need to make someone see things my way. And the cutoffs aren’t even personal, it’s just that I may not have the capacity in my current season to deal with you and the things you do. That doesn’t mean I want you to change who you are nor does it mean I love or like you any less. I just can’t have you in close proximity at this time.

I didn’t see this coming. I assumed that my life had the potential to be better having a relationship with God, but I didn’t expect things to happen in the way that they’re happening.

But I like it.

I like that I’m being challenged in ways that I purposely avoided and is now becoming comfortable with. I like that He strengthens my faith with conflict and still arms me with scriptures and encouraging people to get me through it. I like the mysteries of His methods because they keep me intrigue to see what’s next.

I really didn’t see this coming, but I’m thankful that this relationship is happening — and if you’re walking with God, don’t be surprised when He starts stretching you too. Growth doesn’t stay in one place. It touches everything connected to you.
