Day One… Chile Please

There is no comparison between my husband and God, but my relationship with God is just as important as my marriage. They both take work to maintain, and things like communication, trust, and reciprocity are only a few of their similarities. With that said, my walk with God is very different — and dominant — over anything else in my life.

I don’t try to understand God because He’s omniscient, meaning He knows everything. So when we talk, I don’t leave out the parts where I messed up or what I could’ve handled better because… for what? He already knows.

For a long time, I thought it was hard to have a relationship with God because I was overwhelmed by religious beliefs and doctrines about what I could and could not do. However, when I actually started a relationship with God, I found out it wasn’t hard at all — just overcomplicated by thoughts and opinions passed down from one generation to another.

My relationship with God really started when I got sick of how I was living and finally stopped caring about how my relationship with Him looked to other people. It still feels a little embarrassing admitting that, but whatever.

He’s done a lot for me, and He’s been with me through every high and low in my life. Psalms 139:13–16 taught me that I’ve been on God’s mind since my momma missed her cycle.

What?!

How could I not want someone like that in my life? Day one… chile please… He’s been down with me since before I had days to count.

This relationship isn’t just enlightening — it’s God teaching me how to live, and I’m becoming a better person because of it.

Spread the love
