In my journey with walking with God I’ve picked up on the fact that God does nothing outside of his purpose. The bible doesn’t just flat out say this, but through various stories it’s very clear.
My favorite is Joshua 2:1-24 because it exemplifies how God will use a person that no one expects him to use to carry out his plan. A lying hooker – really – who saw that coming. That confirms that God’s purpose isn’t petty on any level because it supersedes how others see us, even how we see ourselves. There’s something liberating about God seeing us important enough to help fulfill His purpose, as flawed as we are. The chapter also shows us that His purpose as well His protection can be found in unlikely places that others wouldn’t think to look. I think we all can agree with God protecting us in unlikely places that we knew we shouldn’t have been at doing things we know we shouldn’t have been doing. I’m not even saying he condone it, but God’s grace is as sure as an elephant being heavy.
The things that God does to fulfill His purpose is very intriguing and knowing this pivots my perspective of how I look at the world. God uses who he wants, wherever he wants, when he wants to fulfill his purpose. I think this also speaks to how God looks at our hearts versus what’s visible to people. Whore or not, Rahab knew God maybe not from a long term relationship or by teachings, but she knew enough about Him to put respect on His name. Which pivots my thinking to another perspective that it appears that God just wants us to be willing and open even if we don’t have all of the details of what he’s doing.
This is liberating because it gives us freedom from the box of religious practices and rituals to know God differently and at our own pace. For example someone read the same chapter that I did and probably got a whole other perspective on it because of where they are in their relationship with God. It doesn’t make their perspective incorrect no more than it makes mines, because God met us both on our level of understanding.
