You can’t pour from an empty cup, and no one talks about it enough, but self-replenishing is vital to our beings.
We go and we go and we go some more without stopping to consider even the little things.
Did I eat today?
Am I tired?
Am I overstimulated?
Granted, priorities and time management do play a part in how we move but that doesn’t diminish the necessity of replenishing ourselves because burnout is real. I’ll say that again for the people in the back – burnout is real.
You can’t be effective as you need to be if you’re depleted. You may have to unplug from the world for a couple of hours, days or weeks depending on how wiped out you allowed yourself to get. And how we replenish is going to look different for all of us, mine is stillness and sewing. Designing clothes is completely satisfying for me because it doesn’t feel like work. I can let my mind wander into the threads, fabrics and placing pieces together. Sewing restores me because I can get completely lost in it, losing all consciousness of time just flowing in pure creative juices better known as Joi’s replenishing place.
Find your place of replenishment, the thing that fills you every time. Find two or three things if you can and marinate in it – it’ll save your life.
