Personal & Confidential: Intimacy With God

There is an intimacy that goes along with maintaining a relationship with God. Just like my marriage, I don’t discuss everything we talk about, nor do I share everything that takes place. Some things only Him and I know.

It’s personal.

The more I journey with God, the more I understand that everything isn’t everybody’s business — and no relationship is the same, so comparisons aren’t necessary. This is a big deal for me because, just like in a natural relationship, people still like to put their opinions and suggestions on things as if they’re in the relationship with you. I like to entertain the thought that they’re only speaking from their own experiences, with no bad intentions intended, but you can’t ever tell — and it’s not something I worry about regularly.

It’s personal.

I don’t even share everything about my relationship with God with my husband, and he respects that just like I respect his spiritual relationship. Not because we’re hiding anything from each other, but because we respect the boundaries.

It’s personal.

Honestly, just like a natural relationship, the fewer people in your business, the better. It keeps the noise down, and it keeps you from second‑guessing the progress you’ve made. Sometimes a relationship with God can feel overwhelming because you don’t know what you don’t know. You’re feeding your soul, trying to do what’s right, maybe you can hear and see God’s confirmations for your efforts — and maybe you can’t.

Just like everyone doesn’t know every crack and cranny in your natural relationship, they don’t know it about your spiritual relationship either. In these moments, I lean hard on the fact that God sees my heart. He sees my intentions to do the right thing. He understands exactly where I am in our relationship, and He’s still with me — still seeing me through day by day.

So keep showing up — 1 Samuel 16:7 confirms that God honors the intimacy you build in the quiet places. The songs you sing to Him, your journal entries, the prayers only you know you prayed… He sees your heart long before anyone else does.
