Reciprocity is new to me — not the word, but the way I’m seeing it now. I’ve always done it intuitively. I just never called it reciprocity. I called it alignment, listening, showing up, or being intentional. But the bottom line of reciprocity is simply responding.
Responding when God shifts my perspective.
Responding when He reveals something I didn’t want to see.
Responding when He corrects me.
Responding when He comforts me.
Responding when He nudges me to move.
Even when He’s silent, I still respond — with a prayer, a thought, an adjustment, or a moment of honesty. Something. Because at this point in my life, it feels rude not to respond to God. I know better now, and knowing better should segue into me doing better.
John 15 helped me understand why responding matters. He’s the vine, and I’m the branch. If I disconnect, I feel it immediately. There’s a void I can’t shake. I feel off all day until I realize, “I haven’t talked to God.” That’s the kind of “death” the scripture is talking about. Any disconnection from Him is without life.
So reciprocity isn’t deep. It’s not complicated. It’s not a performance.
It’s me saying:
“I heard You.
I saw You.
I felt You.
I’m responding.”
That’s reciprocity.
