The Bible Thing

For the past two weeks God has been pushing me toward reading my Bible. He’s said it directly, and He’s confirmed it indirectly — through people, conversations, and random YouTube videos. So I think I’m going to give this thing another go.

That’s right — I’ve tried before and failed to be consistent. Not because I don’t like reading my Bible, but because it’s always felt like a chore and an immediate sedative. No lie, I wake up sleep every time. But I keep hearing people say there’s a whole other level to God if I invest in my Bible, and that alone has my curiosity killing the cat.

I’ve been pivoting and recalibrating because my life is shifting — I can feel it. In this season, I find myself fighting for my life every other day. I’m dealing with situations I’ve been through before, so I wouldn’t say I have heavy problems. And the good outweighs the bad, so I’m not complaining. But I’m not in a season where I can tolerate or listen to a bunch of bullshit.

Right now, I can only deal with people who are headed in the same direction I am — achieving goals, improving themselves, people who feed me instead of feeding off me. Because propelling forward isn’t for the weak.

Writing this post made reading my Bible make more sense. I don’t think I realized how much I lean on a book I never actually read. Philippians 4:13 motivates me to pursue anything even when I’m scared. Isaiah 54:17 reminds me that God is with me even when the world is less than kind. And these aren’t scriptures I’ve studied — they’re scriptures I’ve heard all my life.

They taught me that even though I’m still learning how God works, the things I picked up in my past are still useful and relevant to my now.

I’m still not big on church — maybe I’ll never be — but this God thing right here? It’s life.
