I’m learning that healing from my past also means making peace with my past self.
Making peace with who I used to be, what and who I used to allow in my space. Asking God’s forgiveness, and being thankful that I’m not who I was anymore, gives me peace. There’s nothing I can do to change the past because what’s done is done. I wish I hadn’t done some of the things that I did, but I have no regrets because what I’ve done and what was done to me brought me to my today. My today is teaching me that God does nothing outside of his purpose.
How do I know?
Because everything that I’ve been through has come full circle. Now I know why my upbringing was so inconsistent, so I could be consistent with my own kids. I understand why I was put down so much, because it built my confidence.
God knew who I was before I did and he put me in the right situations at the right points of my life to steer me where he wanted me to be. Had my life been as smooth as I’d wanted it to be, and had all the people in my life loved me the way I wanted them to, I’d be comfortable and complacent right now. I wouldn’t be blogging and there would be no need for me to even form a relationship with Him.
What brings me the most peace with my past self is knowing that everything that was important for me to learn about myself or life in general came by way of an uncomfortable situation. That shifts my entire perspective of how I see uncomfortable situations and my past because now I see it was all for my good.
