Weekly Squirts

Check out how things went down last week…

The legendary ATribe Called Quest has partnered with Vans footwear for a ‘Bonita’ Sk8-Hi release. Paying homage to the group’s iconic hit “Bonita Applebum”, the kicks were first spotted at ComplexCon in Los Angeles a couple of weeks back. The retail cost hasn’t been announced yet, however the cream and suede sneakers are forecasted to release to the public spring of 2018.

Harry Rosen and Davids Footwear have partnered-up to produce forward movement for the footwear merchant. Davids Footwear is looking to expand nationally, and with both labels common interests of being family-owned as well as sharing the same Canadian roots, it seems more than appropriate for the two to combine their forces into something great. The CEO of Harry Rosen Inc., Larry Rosen expressed his excitement by saying, “We’re thrilled to have entered into this partnership agreement with the Markowitz family. Our companies share a similar legacy of internationally recognized, family-run businesses that offer world-class product and exceptional service. We believe we can help DAVIDS grow into a national chain that provides a compelling point of difference to the department stores.” Harry Rosen has been appointed to lead the expansion, and while the preliminaries are being worked out  Davids will continue to run as an independent company.

MAC made an announcement on Instagram last week of a collaboration with Puma set to launch in 2018. “Your favourite hues take a big step in a whole new direction! Stay tuned for a kickin’ collaboration, coming soon.” Very similar to the Nicki Minaj announcement made earlier this year by the cosmetic retailer, they have put a lot of energy into keeping things on the hush. At least with the Nicki Minaj collaboration we got 2 lipsticks teasers, but there’s no teasers coming with this announcement, only a whole lot of patience until next year. MAC seems very clear on designating  2018 as their year to shine, so stay close to see the premiers unfold.

Telfar is the winning label for this year’s CFDA / Vogue Fashion Fund. The brand is founded by creative designer Telfar Clemens, known best for his unisex apparel with a motto of “It’s not for you – it’s for everyone” to add talk to his walk. The announcement was made last week during an intimate dinner hosted in Brooklyn, New York, but this is just one of Clemens’ creative ventures. In addition to receiving the $400,000 grant from the CFDA, Clemens has also recently joined forces with the White Castle Company. The partnership consisted of designing new unisex uniforms for each White Castle employee. The proceeds from the collaboration are forwarded to the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Liberty and Justice program to fund bail money to minors held in Rikers Island for extensive periods of time until their calendared court date. Last I checked, the collaboration was close to being completely sold out, but there are still a few items left that you can purchase here.

Tommy Hilfiger and winter sports brand Rossignol has joined forces to release a winter menswear collection. Hilfiger voiced his enthusiasm stating, “Skiing and winter sports have been a passion of mine since I was young. I’ve wanted to develop this capsule collection for a long time, and Rossignol was the ultimate partner to bring the concept to life in a really iconic way.” The collection contains ski jackets, cardigans, as well as ski pants to complete the winter look. At this time there has been no concrete release date established, but the collection is set to retail at both Tommy Hilfiger and Rossignol.

Spanish illustrator, Ricardo Cavolo and streetwear label Atelier New Regime have collided to produce “The Change” collection. The 10-piece capsule contains hoodies, tees, overalls, bombers, as well as accessories, retailing between $14.95 and $299.95. Asics has opened their first AsicsTiger store in New York. The new footwear boutique is a concept store, appealing to the shopper’s lifestyle with things such as health and music. The ambiance is filled with the brand’s heritage, Japanese culture, art, as well as fashion. Shoda Ryoji of Asics Global Lifestyle Division stated, “We’re incredibly proud of the global reach of the AsicsTiger brand, and we’re excited to be expanding our footprint into the US market. The unique energy of New York City, and specifically SoHo, breeds some of the most influential lifestyle and cultural trends, and it’s the perfect location for our growing brand.” If you’re in the area check out the new flagship located on 276 Lafayette Street, and expect highlights throughout the store’s tenure with in-store events and exclusive limited releases.

Mission and Cleveland Cavalier’s Dwayne Wade has come together to launch a new athletic capsule. The collection contains tights, shirts, as well as arm sleeves, retailing from $29.99 to $65.00. The 11-piece bundle is made up of compression fabric, so features such as sweat and odor control, and chafe-free is a mega plus for the athletic consumer. Wade actually co-founded Mission with David Villa and John Tavares back in 2009, so this collaboration is actually more of a promotion for the label. Wade shared his views on the collection with his love for fashion stating, “I am excited to share my new collection, which meets the performance and style needs of athletes by making them feel and look their best. Style is how you express yourself and the collection, featuring reflective and non-reflective pieces, express my bold and creative approach to fashion.” The capsule is available now for retail on Mission’s website.

Marcus Wainwright’s Rag & Bone label will release a new collection celebrating “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”, which is set to premier in the movies December 15th. The limited-edition release will consist of pants, jackets, hoodies, tees, and various accessories, all in-which are inspired by characters from the movie. Designer Victoria Beckham and Reebok are getting together to produce a collection set to release late 2018. Beckham will help drive Reebok’s Innovative Collective Initiative which is all about empowering women. Reebok has already worked with labels such as Vetements, and Cottweiller to help push the initiative and now Beckham is on deck. The footwear brand’s SVP of Women’s Initiatives stated, “As a brand, we look to partner with not just influential women, but women who want to truly change the world. There’s no better embodiment of this than Victoria. She is a true visionary who possesses a relentless desire to help women become the best version of themselves. This desire shines through in everything she touches, especially her designs, which continue to push industry standards season after season. We cannot wait for the world to see what she will do with our collaboration.”

The overdue collaboration of Paige and Clare V. has finally arrived. The duo has released a 3-bag holiday collection, consisting of two wristlets and one shoulder bag. Paige Adams-Geller stated, “We are both LA-based businesswomen with similar interests and visions, which made this a very organic partnership.” The capsule retails from $199 to $290, and is available now at Paige.com. You can never start Christmas shopping too early, so why not start with a couple of handbags.
