The VH1Hip Hop Honors block party went down this past Monday in Los Angeles, with an evening theme of ‘The 90’s Game Changers’. The night was filled with some of the hottest heavy-hitters like Da Brat, Warren G, Master P, and my girl Monica – love, love, loooooooooooooooove me some Monica.
Just as in the 90’s, Missy Elliott came with her supa dupa fly performance with “She’s a Bitch”, and Mariah Carey came through with her vocals singing “Honey”. Maybe it’s just me, but I could’ve stood a little 4-1-1 from my girl Mary, a little Jodeci if the boys could stay sober long enough, and damn show some R. Kelly. I know he’s going through some things right now, but if it wasn’t for his cd 12 Play, half of y’all wouldn’t be here today, and I’m just saying.
Special honors were also rendered during the evening, for director Hype Williams, comedian Martin Lawrence, producer Jermaine Dupri, singer Mariah Carey, and a special performance was presented by Lil Kim, Havoc, and Fabolous remembering the late Prodigy.
Of course, the red carpet gifted us with multiple flashbacks with Jordan 11s, fanny packs, mimics of Aaliyah, and just enough wild colors to make everyone look like they fell out of a comic book. As for who’s outfit I’m digging most out of these looks, I have to go with Remy Ma. Why Remy? Besides the outfit just being absolutely sick-with-it anyway, I’m also loving the way the look renders Remy the sexy, classy chick with a little thug in her. Tell me who you think did it best, and check out the night’s red carpet appearances and performances throughout the evening.
