Shirtwaist dress was her birth name, but now we call her shirtdress.
A very popular trend during the late 1940’s and 50’s, and still very relevant today, thanks to Mr. Christian Dior. The look pioneered from the details of a man’s shirt during a time womenswear had just started experiencing a transitional shift. A lady’s appearance was just starting to soften-up, and women were starting to push the envelope on miniskirts. It was Dior who brought the dress to the world’s attention, which resulted in being labeled the “new look”. It was later in the 60’s that the trend started evolving to multiple varieties that we see today, check it out.
